Commanding Officer's Message

Welcome to the Jacksonville Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps family!
We are a diverse group comprised of Midshipmen, Navy Officer Candidates and Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Education Program Students attending Jacksonville University (JU), the University of North Florida (UNF) and the Florida Community College Jacksonville (FCCJ). The Jacksonville NROTC Unit remains committed to a quality family readiness program that will serve this unit and its families during the school year and during upcoming summer cruises and TAD deployments. An active family readiness program reaps numerous benefits that improve morale, help identify and solve family problems, and contribute greatly to overall mission accomplishment.
The Key Volunteer/Ombudsman Network is critical and central to the overall success of this program and has my unwavering support. It promotes personal, family and command readiness by providing informational, emotional and referral support. Our Key Volunteers and Ombudsmen are in place to ensure that our family members can get the information they need to enjoy this tour of duty, and get the most out of it professionally as well as personally. These are volunteers who understand the needs of service personnel and their families. Whether transitioning from civilian to military life or from enlisted to commissioned service, the Key Volunteers/Ombudsmen are there to help.
I have designated a Key Volunteer Coordinator and an Ombudsman to implement this program. I want to stress the importance of the Network to all members of the Jacksonville NROTC family. I extend an open invitation to all who wish to participate to do so. Your contributions will ensure future mission accomplishment here at Jacksonville NROTC.

Key Volunteer Network
|
The Key Volunteer Network is an integral part of a Marine Corps unit family readiness program and is the primary communication link between the commanding officer and the unit families for the enhancement of mission readiness.
The Key Volunteer Network supports the spouses of the unit Marines by providing communication from the command, serving as a source for information and referral services and by helping foster a sense of community within the unit.

Navy Family Ombudsman
|
Appointed by the Commanding Officer, Command Ombudsmen are volunteers and spouses of service members within the command. As an official command representative, the Ombudsman is a point of contact for all family members connected to the command - including spouses, parents, and extended family members. The Ombudsman Code of Ethics guarantees professionalism and confidentiality, within program guidelines. Each Ombudsman Program is owned by the Commanding Officer and will be unique to the command's size and needs.
Navy Family Ombudsmen are key resources for family members, particularly during deployments. Ombudsmen maintain current resource files with information on military and civilian community agencies that can help families solve a variety of problems, and successfully meet the challenges they face before, during, and after deployments. In addition to providing referral information, Ombudsmen can facilitate communication between the Command and family members. Ombudsmen may publish or contribute to command newsletters or maintain care lines, which have recorded messages with information for command families that can be accessed 24 hours a day. Ombudsmen can also assist families in contacting the Command for a variety of reasons.
